Voluntary Position
Support the GVI Cape Town Community Development Programmes, including teaching healthy living practices and sports education, sustainable development and alternative livelihoods. The programme supports local primary schools and other local partner organisations. The successful applicant will be expected to teach sports and lifestyle classes, coach sports in the afternoons, support volunteer management, program logistics and other activities including side trips, and apartment management.

- Training, supervising and leading volunteers

- Base and logistic support
- Sports coaching or alternative teaching qualification (preferred but not essential).
- First Aid certified.
- Driving licence.
- Teaching experience.
- Sports coaching experience or qualifications.
Applications should be fit and in excellent health, enthusiastic, flexible and hard-working, with good personnel and leadership skills. Teaching experience, community development experience, sports coaching experience and volunteer experience all advantageous.
Conditions are basic, with the programme base in a small fishing village just outside Cape Town. Community living is shared accommodation with running water and western toilets. Staff have their own rooms where possible. Base duty tasks such as cleaning and cooking are shared amongst the staff and volunteers on projects. Days can be long and physically demanding.
