This role gives the successful candidate the opportunity to join GVI's staff team. GVI are considered to be amongst the world leaders in volunteer travel, looking to send over 3,000 volunteers away in 2010 on critical conservation and community development projects in 40 countries.

Every year over 3000 volunteers join programs from 1 week to over 1 year. Responsibilities

  • As with all small companies, responsibilites are subject to change but may include:
  • Recruitment, training and management of interns
  • Reporting and statistics
  • Development of intern program training materials
  • Application phone calls for programmes within your remit
  • Pre-departure email and phone support for volunteers
  • Regular liaison with North America and Australasia offices and overseas office staff
  • Occasional site visits to ensure that you are fully up to date with the volunteer experience
  • Some elements of volunteer aftercare as delegated by the Customer Services Manager
  • Pre departure support
  • General office roles as required

Qualifications Required

  • Confident telephone manner
  • Complete fluency in the English language
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Enthusiasm
  • Good knowledge of GVI’s projects, expeditions and courses
  • Previous work within sales and management in the travel industry (preferably the volunteer travel sector)

Qualifications Desired

  • Experience of working in a small office environment
  • Good numeric skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently
  • Volunteer experience
  • Management/recruitment experience
  • Travel industry experience
  • Travel experience, preferably with GVI
  • Occasional weekend work and overseas travel will be expected in this position.
